| Have the media in your countries also reported about this? I read about it in a Swedish newspaper and got really shocked. I hope that I won't ever have to read such a thing again (and especially not about any of you, or some other fan of Sakis). Of course there are worse things going on in this world, like wars, famine, environmental problems, etc, etc. But idolization should be a beautiful thing, not a destructive thing like this.

| I am reposting the article here in case it gets removed: Ever since the widely reported suicide of a crazed fan’s father, Andy Lau (刘德华) has come out twice to comment on the matter.
On April 1, Sina.com quoted the 45-year-old Hong Kong superstar as saying: “I’m very unhappy because a girl who likes me did so many things to hurt her father.” He then urged her to stop her unreasonable behavior and asked fans to not emulate her.
Subsequently, Lau also posted a message on his Andy World Club website, addressing the shocking and tragic incident.
The girl in question is Yang Lijuan (杨丽娟), 29, of China, whose 12-year obsession with the singer-actor has not only impoverished her family but driven her 68-year-old father, Yang Qinji (杨勤冀), to his death in Hong Kong on March 27. The man, a teacher, left a 12-page suicide note that blamed Lau for causing the family’s financial woes while also pleading with the star to meet his daughter one more time. Lijuan had on March 25 met Lau for the first time. In his message on the website, Lau wrote that he had received calls from many concerned friends and especially thanked Alan Tam (谭咏麟), Hacken Lee (李克勤), Miu Kiu Wai (苗侨伟), Gillian Chung (钟欣桐) and Charlene Choi (蔡卓妍).
He also expressed gratitude to fans and well-wishers who had been flooding the website’s message board with their words of encouragement.
“I read every single post,” he wrote, and assured everyone that he was well.
He also shared a meaningful verse from a friend.
It reads: “Everything should follow nature’s course / When it’s over one should face it calmly with dignity / When times are good, one should be indifferent / When times are bad, one should be confident / There are bound to be ups and downs / One will come to understand after he has gone through all the difficulties.
At the end of the note, Lau left a postscript acknowledging the media’s concern for him and the people’s hopes for him to provide some response to the matter.
“I’m sincerely thankful to all of you but I have no response. My company has said whatever needs to be said. Personally, I have not much response and I will not be giving any in the future.” By the way Sakis is reputed to have caused not one but two suicides thought I strongly feel that the media overdid it a bit. Maybe some poor misguided girlie drunk a dozen aspirins or something and then the media exploited it to give Sakis some umpf. | |
