| TALK OF THE TOWN: SAKIS ROUVAS
Sakis doesn't live here any more, but this month (October) he is coming back to give two concerts for philanthropic purposes in Athens and Patra. And he is saying "S'eho eroteftei" (= I have fallen in love with you) to his friends with a T – Shirt.
With all the things I read about Sakis lately I suffer from withdrawn syndrome. He left for L.A. and he doesn't know when he is coming back. OK, so what? You'll tell me. Other Greek stars have left and went abroad before for various reasons. You didn't get depressed. And I'll reply. Sakis, sang to me – before he left – "S'eho eroteftei" (= I have fallen in love with you) and in the video clip, I could swear that he was talking to me, even thought I know deep inside that he was talking about Katia. Whether you are a fan or not, you can't deny that he has star quality. And he has the whole "package", voice, talent and good looks. Now that he is in L.A. – to broaden his horizons, to make business contacts and take acting lessons, the noses of Hollywood, (i.e. the producers) will DEFINITELY discover him. Is there a chance he might not be coming back?
Sakis (otherwise known as Saaaaakiiiiiis!) is the face of the day for all the above reasons and for one more that's more important: because while he left for America to test his abilities abroad and he could claim that he can't come back he is returning to give the two more important concerts of his career as he put it. In September 24th in the basketball stadium of OAKA and in October 1st in the stadium "Dimitrios Tofalos" of Patra, Sakis will present a show called "Sakis on stage" that as people who have seen the rehersals have claimed is something that will leave us speechless. And although many people will be there because those two shows are the last Sakis will ever give for 2005, for many others what's more important is that all the money will be given to the Olympic Village, an organization that supports children with special needs and their families. And judging from the Live 8 concerts (and other events organized for philanthropic reasons around the globe) it's the new trend for artists to show they care with gestures of this sort, then what can I say … we love trends. At least we are doing something, so that the new generation is not constantly harassed that it gets involved only with worldly and unimportant things.
I guess it's true what they say. Sakis has matured: he needs to evolve professionally that's why he is leaving now at the peak of his career, when his latest album become platinum and he could ask for a huge sum to appear in a club. The moment he meets the greatest demand he decides to give two concerts without getting paid and accepts the position of "ambassador" for the anticancer society again without payment.
Whether Sakis will be the host or the representative of Greece in Eurovision Song Contest is something that Sakis is seriously considering. But that is news for another article.

Translator's Notes: At the time this article was published Sakis hadn't said the final "yes" to ERT's proposal. Now we know for sure that he will be the host of ESC 2006. | |
